What Men Wear- In Fashion

Last weekend, the future prospects of the fashion industry scuttled thier way to the big apple in lieu of Teen Vogue Fashion University. I noticed a few boys in the mix this year, many more than last year, and many more trying VERY hard to be "fashionable." Now you all know my affinity for loud and decorative, but some of these guys were a HOT mess. The sequin bowties, the jewelry, the heels?- The sparkles and adornment were impressionitic of that of the high society men in France in the 1600's.
But enough with the history lesson.
Here is my lesson. listen up.

1. This kid was all about fashion, and I very much enjoyed talking to him.I was impressed by his taste and his outfit was trendy [to say the least] but you still got his personal style. and I love me some suede shoes.

2. Not many men can rock a floral coat, not like this guy. He tiptoed the line between style and being too costume-y and I appriciate him pushing the boundaries. And the buckle shoes tie in beautifully.

3. Oh I really wish he had a shirt on. this look was kind of everywhere, and the ripped jeans? uhh...

4.Oh the classic prep.
You all know him and love him.
This is Fred. He definitely wins.
5. Two words: Advanced Style. If more men wore ascots, I'm almost positive there would be world peace.

Teen Vogue Fashion University Weekend

Ok so, this was my third year at the event. I am beginning to feel like a veteran, very at home in the mass of teenage girls starving for a place in the industry. This year though, I came with a bit more experience, and I believe my style and taste have changed quite a bit. There were some fashionable young men. And yes, I will be posting pictures and scrutiny later on.

Oh how I've missed you, intrawebbers!

I have been absolutely crazy these past months. School, work, internships, AND writing a little for other blogs/online magazines. Things have died down a bit and I will be back on track soon.

Milan Mens Fashion: Spring 2011

Ok so this will be a long post. Brace yourself for the barrage of le dernier cri:
This is Milan, people. This is big. The bags, The Leathers, The.. mesh tank tops?
Well, you'll get the idea, designers really pulled out all the stops this season and went big.

And heres my opinion:

Vivienne Westwood: I really like this. And I do not mean you guys should be going out and shopping for the literal translation of this... I mean the mixed prints and the shorts... Anyway you can do it. His socks say "Prince Charming" by the way.

Versace: As always, Versace delivers a line of impeccably fitted suits, but I dont know if its just me, I feel like the length and cut of the jacket is just a little odd. maybe its the sleeves? I dont know what it is. But these shoes; They. Are. KILLER!

Roberto Cavalli: My favorite this season! ahh, the bold prints, the subtle pops of color. Really take a look at the rest this collection. They did it right.

Prada: This looks like denim hospital scrubs to me.

John Varvatos: JV takes a close second in my book. I love the pattern on the 3pc. There was also a lot of pairing suits with knits, I guess the trend is growing on me, and I really like the way Varvatos styles it.

Gucci: You guys know how I feel about my men in scarfs. Of course I approve this look. I also like how the Jacket fits, I'm noticing a lot of designers trying to play with length but I like the classic cut of this. I really like this whole collection, there was a lot of inspiration from the 70's thrown in with some Leisure Suit style.

Calvin Klein: So whats up? last season I felt like it was a lot of garbage bags a furniture upholstery, now all I'm seeing is strangely cut windbreakers and T shirts and a whole lotta Khaki.

Bottega Veneta: It kind of feels like the same thing in like 5 differnt colors

Alexander McQueen: Ahh, I love the throw back to the Wing-up collar. This shirt is so interesting. I love love love how it's dyed.

You heard it here men, when spring rolls around, make sure to go out and get your impossibly baggy pants and mesh shirts.

Watch Out

ok so, I've noticed alot of lightweight watches with woven bands around lately.
I like them. I think all of you should go out and get one, because leather and metal don't say summer.
These are nice:

Also, Seersucker ties. Yes, TIES. This puckered fabric isn't only for suit anymore.

I Believe In a Brighter Tomorrow

So if you guys are as blasé of dark, drab, cold weather colors as I am, Your probably itching for some trendy warmth.
Say 'aloha' to Reyn Spooner. A company that has been around for more then 50 years! (but I just found them today)

When american designer, Reyn McCullough partnered with Spooners of Waikiki and decided to join the Honolulu loud with eastern prep, Reyn Spooner was born. Now usually, I would say no to such a loud statement on a short sleeve button-up, but these shirt are just too much fun to pass up, and they are slighty more understated than the classic Reyn's style.

By "understated," I mean the fabric has been turned inside out to mute the tropical hue, an invention of Mr. Reyn McCullough himself. The resulting button-down shirts, shorts and board shorts are faded enough so you won't look like a tourist in your own city, but Hawaiian enough to let the world know that you too, believe in a warmer tomorrow.

Shmooze With Esquire

Ok so last night was the Esquire magazine Women We Love party for Hillary Flowers, Francis Mercier, and Jeff Krauss.
As you can probably imagine, I spent the entire night running around in my 5 inch stilettos like a hyper child trying to meet as many well dressed men as i possibly could. Mostly there were either older guys in jeans and sport shirts with blazers, or younger guys in Armani shirts, NOT tucked into their dark washed and embroidered designer denim.

But there were a few noteworthy gallants:

His jacket fits very nicely, I wasnt sure what the fabric was but it felt like light wool or textured cotton. I love the little details like the skull tie and the pocket silk.
I tried So many times to get pictures of these guys, My camera was misbehaving. But you get the idea, I love the turtle neck under the sweater and the check jacket. Also, take note of the bow tie and scarf and the black and gray suit, that I kind of missed in the picture. And you know what I always say about personal style. and the man in the leather and velvet definitley has it. You know what hes all about before you talk to him. His name is Magicus by the way. You can find him at http://www.myspace.com/magicus4real. These men were bursting with style and taste.

This guy was also with the dashing group of gentlemen above, but I thought he needed his own picture. the red sweater caught my eye but the scarf drew me in. I dont think too many men can work a look like this with so many colors and patterns going on, but he wins the fashionable-coordination lottery with this one.

Remember what I said a few posts back, when I mentioned my animosity for bows and colorful scarfs on men? I TAKE IT BACK! The mix and match 3pc., shirt tucked in, AND hair combed? This bold intrepid makes my generation proud. And on top of everything that makes this man a winner, he is also a very talented writer. Check out his article on Lady GaGa in this months Esquire.

These delightful dandies would all get an A+ in the classroom of my life...
The rest of the party... Maybe a C.
